Filing Patent Application in Japan using Paris or PCT route
Using Paris route, Applicant need to submit an application form,

Due Date for Filing of the Japanese translation:
- within 16 months after the priority date (Direct Application)
- within 30 months after the priority date or 2 months after the filing of the request for entry into PCT national phase, whichever is later (PCT)

Patent Application shall be subjected to Formality Examination and then published 18 months after the priority date.
Request for Substantive Examination
must be filed within 3 years after the filing date

First Action Pendency, which means the average number of months from the filing of a request for substantive examination to the receipt of a first office action or a notice of allowance:
- 0.8 months for Super Accelerated Examination
- 2.7 months for Accelerated Examination (including accelerated examination based on PPH)
- 10.2 months for Normal Examination
Response to Office Action (Argument/Amendment)
Due Date for Response:
- within 3 months after the mailing date, extensible up to 3 months (for international applicants)
- within 60 days after the mailing date, extensible up to 2 months (for domestic applicants)
Payment of Registration Fee
After Notice of Allowance has been issued and Registration Fee has paid, Patent Right will come into effect as it is entered in the Patent Register. And then Certificate of Patent will be send to the applicant.
